Live 2 Lead, the annual leadership development conference hosted by John C. Maxwell, is only a month and a half away! Which speaker are you most eager to hear from?
In anticipation of hosting the live simulcast viewing event in the Des Moines area, I am excited to share with you a little more information on the upcoming keynote presenters. This month, read more about the accomplishments of Simon Sinek and Dan Cathy, and how their presentations contribute to this can’t-miss event.
Simon Sinek
“People don’t buy what you do, they buy why you do it.”
Simon Sinek is an optimist who teaches leaders and organizations how to inspire people. From members of Congress to foreign ambassadors, from small businesses to corporations like Microsoft and 3M, from Hollywood to the Pentagon, he has changed organizations through the power of “why.” Sinek has held a life-long curiosity for why people and organizations do the things they do. He is leading a movement to inspire people to do things that inspire them.
How do great leaders inspire action? Most people talk about what. Some people talk about how. Great leaders, though, start with why.
In 2009, Sinek wrote the book “Start With Why,” to help organizations improve their performance by tapping into their greater purpose and putting people before numbers. After examining leaders and companies that make the greatest impact in the world, those with the capacity to inspire, he has discovered some remarkable patterns of how they think, act and communicate.
From his discoveries, he created the concept of the Golden Circle, a naturally occurring pattern, grounded in the biology of human decision-making, that explains why we are inspired by some people, leaders, messages and organizations over others.
What is your company’s “why?” What is the driving purpose of your organization’s existence? Sinek explains that by identifying your “why” and communicating it, your team will be inspired to execute your vision and your customers will buy into it as well.
Dan Cathy
“Capitalism should be driving positive social change.”
Dan Cathy has served as Chairman, President and CEO of fast food chain Chick-fil-A since 2013. This 70-year-old company is now the second-largest quick-service chain in the country. Turnover among Chick-fil-A’s 70,000+ employees is a third less than industry average.
Rather than leading from his corporate office in Atlanta, Cathy chooses to spend the majority of his time traveling to the growing number of Chick-fil-A restaurants and interacting with thousands of committed restaurant operators and team members. Known for his customer-centered “servant” leadership, Cathy believes that attentive, sincere, memorable service is a key ingredient to building a successful company. Chick-fil-A’s Founder S. Truett Cathy (Dan’s father), began the company’s culture of delivering excellent, customer-focused service, investing in both his people and the community. Dan Cathy shares his father’s vision and embodies it, often by working behind the counters at his own restaurants.
Cathy will share what he has learned about the importance of putting customers, employees and vendors first to create a culture of self-sacrifice that works together for the ultimate good of the entity.
