Live 2 Lead (L2L), John Maxwell’s annual leadership development conference, is coming up on October 9th. In anticipation of hosting the live simulcast viewing event in the Des Moines area, I am taking a moment to highlight the accomplishments and expertise of the speakers at the event. This month, learn about what you can expect from Patrick Lencioni and B. Kevin Turner.
If you attended the Iowa Association of Business and Industry (ABI) conference in the Quad Cities this past June, you may have heard Patrick Lencioni’s keynote on teamwork and employee engagement. Lencioni is president of The Table Group, a management consulting firm specializing in executive team development and organizational health. He’s also the author of 10 books, most famously The Five Dysfunctions of a Team.
The Wall Street Journal called Lencioni one of the most sought after business speakers in America. His keynote at L2L will touch on his latest book The Advantage, where he makes the case that organizational health “will surpass all other disciplines in business as the greatest opportunity for improvement and competitive advantage.”
Why you should hear him speak at L2L:
While too many leaders are still limiting their search for advantage to conventional and largely exhausted areas like marketing, strategy and technology, Lencioni claims there is an untapped gold mine in focusing on becoming a healthier organization, tapping into the more-than-sufficient intelligence and expertise they already have. He defines a healthy organization as one with minimal politics and confusion, high degrees of morale and productivity, and low turnover among good people. He’ll draw on his experience consulting to some of the world’s leading team and reaffirming many of the themes, revealing the four steps to achieving long-term success.
B. Kevin Turner
Kevin Turner is Microsoft’s Chief Operating Officer, leading the company’s global sales, marketing and services organization of more than 47,000 employees in more than 190 countries. Under his leadership, the sales and marketing group delivered more than $78.6 billion in revenue in fiscal 2013. He also sits at a member of the Board of Directors at Nordstrom. Prior to Microsoft, Turner served as the Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer of Wal-Mart, and and the President and CEO of Sam’s Club.
Beginning his career as a cashier at Wal-Mart, Turner worked his way up to an executive role of two Fortune 50 companies. He’s excited to share his business and leadership insight with L2L attendees through a question-answer session asked by John Maxwell.
Kevin Turner will answer the following questions during his interview at L2L:
- What’s one of the most important attributes of a leader?
- What have you had to give up to go up in your career?
- How do you connect with each person on your team and how does this benefit your leadership?
- How do you teach team members to think for themselves?
- How have you motivated your team to rekindle their drive to the company mission?
By answering these questions, we will receive insight on leadership within some of the most successful businesses in America. Microsoft was noted in June for SHAKING UP ITS LEADERSHIP AND INTERNAL STRUCTURE. With big innovation on the way, this interview will be a must-see.
